I’m no movie expert but after watching Jumper yesterday, I find it a must to leave a little note for the viewing people.
For starters, I can say that the effects were great. It started off with the story of his (David Rice) first accidental discovery of his ability to jump (teleport) when he fell into an icy pond for retrieving a snow shaker (like this – snow globe - but simpler), after his love interest’s (Millie) boyfriend/suitor threw it. Trapped into the icy pond and nearing death, he was able to unconsciously teleport to Ann Arbor public library. From then on, he felt that the power would “liberate” him from his almost non-existent father.
Independent and free, he enjoyed every bit of his power, travelling, until he met another jumper and realized that a group wants all of them (jumpers) killed. One of them is Roland, played by Samuel L. Jackson. His father gets killed when he could not point to them where he, David, is. To protect Millie he went on to hunt Roland.
That’s as far as the story goes. Visual effects took most of the movie. Overall, it’s good but if you’re looking for a deeper story, you may be disappointed. My husband and I felt that it lacked explanation on how jumpers came to being, deeper explanation on they were being hunted/killed. But then again, they may be holding these information off for a possible sequel. It’s inevitable especially because Roland lives on.
